Antarctic Meteorites Collection

The Antarctic Meteorite collection encompasses meteorite samples collected in Antarctica as part of the US Antarctic Meteorite program. The US Antarctic Meteorite program is a cooperative effort among NASA, the National Science Foundation (NSF), ANSMET, and the Smithsonian Institution.

Analysis of these meteorites helps to decipher the formation processes of primitive meteorites and their components, to identify their parent bodies, and to obtain information on the mineralogical, chemical, and physical evolution of parent bodies. With over 22,000 recovered Antarctic meteorites, this collection is the largest in the world and features samples from Moon, Mars, and asteroids.
